Are you a skilled Maintenance Fitter with the ability to ensure that all plant, equipment and services are safely maintained in line with company regulations? Do you have experience of working in a heavy industry such as aggregates, quarry, building products, construction products, building materials manufacturing or similar? If yes, read on…. 

My client is an established firm in the heavy plant / quarry / aggregates industry, based near Peterborough. They are looking for a skilled Maintenance Engineer with experience working in a heavy engineering industry to perform reactive maintenance and quickly respond to breakdowns.

The Role -Maintenance Technician:

- Respond to breakdowns and quickly effect a repair so as to keep downtime to a minimum

- Report any observations/concerns arising from a PPM activity

- Adhere to all health, safety and environmental policies

- Suggest and implement plant improvements

- Monitor and request spares in a timely manner to maintain plant and equipment

- Accurately complete documentation to enable a traceable and auditable route (CMMS)

- Take part in cross-functional task teams to improve machine/process reliability

- Assist in any auditing being conducted either internal or external

- Mentor maintenance assistants within core trade (Where applicable)

- Supervise contractors when required, to ensure that they work safely and in line with their documented RAMS

- Attend daily toolbox talks to enable quick communications of any issues

- Interact daily with maintenance, operations and yard staff to learn and share

  knowledge of the plant operations to improve overall performance

- Undertake reasonable tasks as allocated by the company in addition to those defined

Minimum Skills / Experience Required -Maintenance Fitter

- Experience working as a Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Fitter or Maintenance Technician, within a heavy engineering industry, such as aggregates, recycling, quarry, power plant or construction products

- Must possess strong maintenance ability and aptitude to apply Mechanical Maintenance (Dual skilled with Electrical an advantage)

- Must have good and logical problem-solving / fault-finding skills

- Communicate effectively with others at various levels using both oral and written communication skills

- Planning and organisational skills

- Co-ordination and control

- Good time management skills (Flexibility included)

- Works well within a team or solo (where safe to do so)

- Basic understanding of Regulations i.e. Working at Height, PUWER etc

- Fault-finding logic / problem-solving skills

- Documented (Qualified) core trade skills i.e. Abrasive Wheels, Lifting & Slinging, Working at Height, MEWP (IPAF), FLT

- Experience in OXY & Mig/Tig welding of heavy manufacturing plant and equipment and have relevant qualifications

- Operation of hand and power tools common to the Fabricating / Welding trade
