My client supplies, installs, hires and maintains critical power systems and associated equipment such as generators, UPS  systems, switchgear and CHP (Combined Heat and Power). They are currently looking for a Field Service Engineer to repair, service and maintain their CHP Generators on various sites across the Wiltshire area.

The ideal candidate base location could include Oxford, Didcot, Abingdon, Chipping Norton, Wantage, Witney or Kidlington.
The role of Field Service Engineer:
  • Travelling around the UK, using your engineering and computer skills to carry out routine servicing work on a range of CHPs in the range of 30kW – 500kW. 
  • This will be a mixture of scheduled service work and reactive work where you would be the first responder to a breakdown on site.  
  • This role is a fantastic balance of working independently with the backup of a strong support team in the office to enable you to fulfil your role. 
  • You will be part of our wider technical support team that supports both internal colleagues and external customers with a can-do approach.
  • Ensure that you fully understand the customer’s requirements prior to visiting site.
  • Create effective relationships within the Service team and the wider organisation.
  • Provide detailed Site Reports to the required standard that among other things highlight actions  which may need to be taken and seek opportunities for improvement 
  • Maintain regular communications with the Service Team 
  • While on-site observe health and safety at work procedures and complete required Risk  Assessments 
  • When necessary support customer and internal training activities to help educate customers and colleagues in the correct operation and maintenance of equipment
  • A callout rota is also in operation, which involves you being on call out of hours circa twice a month.
  • Flexible with overnight stays when required - approx 2 per month (£15 extra payment per night).
  • All diaries are live and transparent so that you can see your future workload.
  • Your position would be within the Operations department, reporting to the Service Operations Manager via the Senior Service Coordinator.  

Key Skills / Experience Required: 
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience as a CHP service engineer, or similar role 
  • MWM Trained 
  • Ability to work with complex equipment such as flue gas analysers, digital water flow and temperature profiling devices. 
  • Strong practical knowledge of LTHW hot water systems, including practical experience of pumps,  inverter drives, flow rates, delta T, boiler operations, and associated BMS controls  
  • Strong practical electrical engineering knowledge of LV power generation and distribution  systems
  • Practical knowledge of high-level software-based control systems such as Comap/Deep Sea etc (desirable)
  • IT skills, fluent with Outlook, Excel, & Word. Practical experience of using laptop-based bespoke  engine system analysis and control programmes such as Comap PC Suite / DSE Configuration Suite etc  
  • Gas Safe qualification (desirable)
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification (desirable) 
  • IEE 18th Edition Qualified (desirable)
  • Good communication skills with a range of individuals; customers to site operatives 
  • Full clean UK Driving Licence (essential)

 Salary and Package:
  • 40-hour working week with regular overtime available
  • Salary up to £40,000 per annum
